  • Simple tips & ideas to organize your linen closet, without the stress & mess!

I’m so excited to kick off my month of organization today! I couldn’t decide where to start, so I decided to get one of the scariest tasks {for me, at least} out of the way first. I’m starting with organizing the linen closet. A linen closet can become a catch all & often holds a lot of unused items, which is how it lands there to begin with. Starting with this small organization project will remind us both that we can do it all, if we just break it down to a project at a time. I often convince myself that I can get organized in just a day or two, but it doesn’t prove to be the most successful. I get exhausted, frustrated, burn out & am left with a mess bigger than what I started with. Working on one task at a time allows me to see how we use the space, what we really need there & maybe, even make it pretty! Let’s get back to that linen closet, shall we?

Tips to organize your home, starting with your linen closet!

    1. Remove everything from the closet. Yes, everything. No cheating! It’s amazing what gets hidden in there.
    2. Sort. Divide sheets by room, ensuring you have a full set for each. If your closet is anything like mine, it eats pillow cases for breakfast. Keep just 2 sets of sheets for each bed.
    3. Purge. You knew it was coming, didn’t you? After you decide what the closet will be used for, if anything, other than a linen closet, remove all other items. Many of these may be donated, recycled or just thrown away if you don’t need to allocate them to another location.
    4. Fold. Can you fold a fitted sheet? I’ve watched Martha Stewart’s How to Fold a Fitted Sheet tutorial, but I’m still unsuccessful. Oh Martha. I store the guest bedroom & master bedroom spare sheet sets in baskets & the girls’ sheets on open shelves. Organize your closet with these simple ideas
    5. Label. I may be slightly Type A, but nothing is more frustrating to me than opening a sheet set only to realize it’s not for the bed I’m changing. I don’t particularly enjoy folding sheets, so I label them. This is also necessary because all of our sheets are neutral vs patterned. Simple ideas for organizing your linen closet in a 10 day series of home organization
    6. Add functional storage. For us it’s 2 additional baskets on the top shelf to safely store medicine & a basket below is for linens waiting to be ironed {not sheets, I’m not that Type A}.
