I discovered Benjamin Moore Soft Chamois from one of my favorite designers, Phoebe Howard. I love how warm it feels, yet still very light, giving the illusion of space in our foyer bath and creating a relaxing retreat in areas like our master bedroom.

When we moved into our home, we had the entire upstairs painted Benjamin Moore Soft Chamois, and have never looked back! In fact, we loved it so much we repainted our foyer bath in it as well and I often contemplate repainting our dining room with it because it’s current color feels a bit too cool with its lighting situation.

This is one of the most versatile paint colors I’ve used to date. It’s a great fit for a lot of spaces and it’s so soft.

During the day it looks light and beautiful, and at night warm, but not yellow or dirty.

To help you decide which paint color is right for you, I’m breaking them down with pros and cons of each, where they’re best used, etc.

I love all of our paint colors, but this cream paint color is foolproof for any space and lighting situation. I’ve yet to see it in a space where I don’t absolutely love it!

  1. I love Swiss coffee but after being sure about it I realize it’s too light. can you recommend darker colors that have the same qualities

  2. Hi, I just found this blog and wanted to comment on a previous comment re: green undertones in this color. I just had my main floor and bedrooms painted in this color and it 100% turned out to be a minty green! I’m hoping the impact will tone down in the fall when there is not so much greenery reflected from outside but I’m afraid I will be paying to have it all redone since it really looks bad. So just a reminder to test, test, test the colors in your space before committing so you don’t make an expensive mistake like I did :).

    1. Hi Beth – did you have it made in Benjamin Moore? And yes, always test. Even the paint you currently have one your walls can impact a color.

  3. Do you think white dove trim would pair well with soft chamois? I’m wanting to use white dove, soft chamois, and edge comb gray throughout my house but not sure how they coordinate to someone who actually knows what they’re talking about!

  4. Hi Julie,

I too am a big fan of Soft Chamois, have used it probably a dozen times in homes I work on as a designer. Maybe it’s the difference in the quality of light in the area of the country where you live and work, but I have to say, I live in Northern California and have noticed – especially in rooms that have less direct light flooding into them – a very distinct green tinge to it. Most homes I use it in, I just love the elegant color it tends to be. But in a few – like one I finished this past month, it’s quite obviously green. And it’s not due to trees outside or reflection off of another house – it’s an undertone for sure. Still love to color, but I’m less thrilled with it when the room’s light brings out that green tone.

  5. I have never been so stressed about paint 🤯. We have been in our home for 5 years, we have tried F&B All White, too white…Setting Plaster by F&B. It was aesthetically pleasing but I got tired of looking at it…Now the walls are painted Donald Kaufman 67. Clunch is painted in the south-east facing Living room. Dining room has lots of light, painted Ashen Tan by Ben Moore. I need 1 -2 colors everywhere. You said Soft Chamois. It looked dirty in my darker north facing kitchen. Sampled Pointing…it looks a tad yellow although in has red undertones. What can I do?
