A white brick house is an enduringly classic style – one of the few exterior styles that is both timeless and trendy at once. In fact, a house with white brick is one of the few styles that always stops me in my tracks on my evenings walks.

There’s just something about this look that I will always love! If you’re a fan of brick houses painted white, you’re going to love this charming colonial home with a white brick exterior – not to mention the before and after images.

There’s just something so enchanting about a white brick house! I’m still dreaming of painting the brick on our home white, but for now, our Tudor Paint Colors have helped tide me over.

Painted white brick is classic, warm and inviting! It captures the texture and history of brick, with a fresh, updated and modern appeal.

Since we moved from our Colonial Home in Kansas City to our Home in St. Louis (click through for both before and after tours), I’ve admired this charming white painted brick house down the block.

Of course, colonials always have my heart in every way – we painted our cedar shake Colonial in a pale neutral color, too. The white siding or white brick gets me every time, though!

This white brick house (which belongs to my now-friend Lindsay) exudes a stately, grand appearance, but also feels so fresh, warm and welcoming. It’s a white house with black trim that will never go out of style.

Painted Brick House Before and After

Often a home takes vision (and courage), Lindsay clearly had both!

This classic home was beautiful before. I can totally understand and appreciate the love for a traditional brick home.

But the after? It lightened and brightened and totally changed the exterior of this home. Now it feels, fresh, modern and oh-so-welcoming, with an abundance of curb appeal !

Why You’ll Love a White Brick House

Details on this House with White Brick

This home is a classic colonial style. While it was likely built 4-5 decades ago, it’s so timeless that it looks like it could be from any decade!

This white brick house is contrasted with the prettiest black shutters, too, which is another classic color combination that will never go out of style! Black double doors, a metal roof over the entry, and the pretty pebble circle drive add even more charm.

It feels polished, cohesive, and grand. This combination of colors and style could be replicated in any size or style of home…which means it may work beautifully for you, too!

The Best White Brick Exterior Paint Colors

Benjamin Moore Simply White

This brick colonial is painted in Benjamin Moore Simply White and accented with black shutters and doors.

Simply White is a warm white paint color that feels fresh and clean. It does have a yellow undertone in some lighting situations, but as you can see on the exterior of this home, it reads as a true white.

It is eternally classic and will never look dated like many of the popular paint combinations today! Of course, a white brick home looks beautiful with softer accents too… gray, beige, soft greens and blues are all beautiful in combination with painted brick.

One tip to keep in mind: A “true white” color isn’t always necessary for the exterior of your home, because so many beige, cream, and oatmeal colors will read “white” in the bright sunlight.

It’s so important to test a variety of whites and pale neutrals and see how they look in the morning, afternoon and evening to find the one that works best for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do white brick houses get dirty?

Painted brick will of course require more maintenance than traditional brick, but that’s minimal when you consider the benefits. A white brick exterior might show a little more dirt than other colors depending on your weather, exterior landscaping and moisture, of course.

What color goes well with white brick?

Black is a classic and timeless accent color for white brick exteriors. However, you can also choose a softer green, blue, beige or gray for a pretty neutral that still feels like a pop of color.

Is white painted brick hard to maintain?

A brick home painted in latex paint might need to be repainted every five years. Consider a mineral paint base, which is believed to let the brick “breath”, thus extending the lifespan of your paint job considerably.

Is red brick out of style?

Red brick is timeless, historic, and always in style. However, in recent years, light and white brick exteriors have become a trend, combining both historic charm and modern sentiments.

What color shutters look best on a white brick house?

The options are endless, and white is the best neutral color of all! Consider a soft, muted green, blue or gray for a more subtle contrast from your white brick. Of course, deeper tones of dark grays, greens and black also look spectacular!

White Washed Brick House

Another option if you love the look of a white brick house, but want to keep a little more of the brick peeking through, is to white wash.

A white washed brick house is easier than you might think! This process leaves a little of the brick showing through, as it’s quite literally a “wash” of paint created with a 50/50 mixture of water and paint.

Any of the above-mentioned white brick house paint colors would work with the process of white washing your home. This process also works for brick fireplaces, walls, etc, that often appear in vintage homes.

  1. Clean your brick gently, whether with soft wired bristles, hoses or cleaning solutions.
  2. Eliminate all loose and remaining paint already on the surface of the bricks.
  3. Protect areas where you don’t want to worry about spilling paint – patios, flooring, window trim, shutters etc.
  4. Create your whitewash mixture with your favorite white paint color and water – simply mix the two in a 50/50 solution.
  5. Use your favorite brush or rag to roll on the whitewash solution. Create a cohesive look by working in smaller sections, completing each area before you move to the next.

Well, what do you think? Are you ready to jump in with both feet and paint your brick house white? I am!

  1. Hi! Do you know what color/brand shingle is on this house? So pretty! It doesnโ€™t read black, so Iโ€™m thinking more of gray, but would love to confirm! Thanks!!

  2. I love the colonial white house with the dark door and louvered shutters. I see that the brick is painted with Benjamin Moore Simply White. What is the color on the door and louvered shutters?

    1. Hi Lessa,
The black shutters she used were stock from Home Depot, so I donโ€™t have more specifics on the black color she paired the white with. I wish I could be of more help – good luck with your paint choices!
      Enjoy,
