How Do You Use This Mexican Seasoning Recipe?
This taco seasoning has so many uses, it’s probably one of the most used spices in my pantry, and it’s not just for tacos! It is, of course, great to stir a couple of tablespoons into ground beef as you are cooking for a really flavorsome taco filling and you can also us it as a dry rub on steak, chicken or fish before grilling. Mix it with a little oil if you prefer to marinate the meat first.
It’s so amazing with these Soft Chicken Tacos and Carne Asada Tacos!
This spice mix is also great to add to a host of other dishes, like chili, bolognese and even add a little to your tomato soup for a hit of heat!
Homemade Taco Seasoning vs Store Bought
By making your own Mexican seasoning, you can easily control the amount of spice in it plus it also has a longer shelf life and it is far more economical. I find the store bought taco seasonings so wasteful, instead I can whip up a huge batch in a matter of minutes and reach for it whenever I want to add more flavor to a meal.
Homemade Seasonings Are Healthier Than Store Bought
So many of the store bought Mexican seasoning recipes contain ingredients and preservatives to extend the shelf life of the product as well as sugar. This homemade mix contains no added sugar, oil or stabilizers. Everything that goes into this mix is natural and honestly, the flavor of this easy seasoning recipe is so much better!
How Long Does A Homemade Spice Mix Last?
This spice mix, if stored properly, can last for up to 2 months; store it in an airtight container in a cool and dark place and away from moisture. Make sure that the spices you use aren’t stale, check this by rubbing a little between your thumb and finger, if no aroma is released, it’s time to replace your spice.
