I love making my own homemade seasoning blends! I’ve shared many of them with you over the years, with the hope that they make your life easier and allow you to customize as needed.

This all purpose seasoning is the perfect enhancement for so many entrees and appetizers like meats, soups, dips and more. Add it to baked chicken, add it to your favorite dips, add it anywhere you want a little extra oomph.

This is a savory, balanced all purpose seasoning blend. I love that it doesn’t belong in any particular category, it’s just generally useful and feels like your own version of a house blend from a restaurant.

The vibrant addition of oregano and parsley help balance the garlic and onion, too. There’s the slightest hint of spice with the chili pepper – not enough to make anyone sweat, just a little heat for interest.

This beautiful seasoning blend will work for many of your favorite entrees, side dishes and appetizers. Add it to fish, chicken, beef, and more!

All Purpose Seasoning Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Garlic Powder – Not Garlic Salt, as that’s an entirely different ingredient and would make your spice blend too salty.
  • Onion Powder – Not onion salt – just the powder!
  • Ground Black Pepper – fresh ground or finely ground pepper, the choice is yours.
  • Salt – choose your favorite. Sometimes I do a cracked sea salt, and sometimes we just use a traditional table salt.
  • Chili Pepper – Or cayenne pepper. Add more or less to your taste!
  • Oregano – For a fragrant Mediterranean touch.
  • Parsley – For a pretty pop of green flavor and color in this blend!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between herbs and spices?

Spices generally come from natural sources like fruit, bark, stems, roots, seeds and even flowers themselves. Herbs are the actual leaves of herb plants, like basil, mint, rosemary and more!

Is all purpose seasoning the same as seasoned salt?

They are similar, but not quite the same. This homemade all purpose seasoning features touches of herbs alongside the spices that are featured in traditional seasoned salt.
