Tips & tricks for styling a bar cart for Christmas

One of the best pieces of furniture that I invested in has been a bar cart. It moves easily from room to room & serves a variety of purposes, most importantly, a bar, of course! However, sometimes it’s an entry table, used when hosting a large group of guests as an extra end table, etc. Sometimes, it’s a buffet for desserts! A great transitional piece is always worth the investment! Styling a bar cart doesn’t require a lot of effort, just the beverages you’ll be serving, glassware to accompany it, accessories to open drinks, stir, etc, & a little added color. Last month I shared my tips for styling a bar cart if you’re interested in the simple strategy to a beautiful bar cart! Today I’m sharing my Christmas bar cart – how I’ve styled it for the season of entertaining!

We don’t do a lot of cocktails at our house, especially when we’re entertaining smaller groups. But two things we {or he} always enjoys are whiskey & wine. I’ll just stick to wine. Whatever you’re serving, make it convenient for guests to serve themselves. It’s one of my best entertaining tips…encouraging guests to feel at home.

If you have been following my blog for a while, you know that I don’t tend to over style. I love finding a blend of style & function that leaves you fearless of pouring that glass of wine, rather than worrying about the domino effect you may start by moving just one little item on the bar cart. However, I love to add a few simple accessories, like this stag head bottle stopper I gilded.

For the holidays, I started with a large magnolia wreath, simply leaning up against the wall, since it’s temporary. If I put holes in my walls every time I moved or decorated the bar cart, it wouldn’t be pretty! It gives the cart height & color.

Next I added wine, white in a chiller, & appropriate wine glasses. For the lower level of the cart, I always place the drinks we’ll use a little less frequently during the evening…I know they’ll just have a few pours & we’ll be refilling wine far more often. I like grouping alcohol together on a tray. I always like to include something organic, even if just lemons or lime to garnish. For Christmas, I’ve added pomegranates. They add a lot of color & their pretty little seeds will make a great addition to my salads after our dinner party.
