I love making my own homemade seasoning blends! I’ve shared many of them with you over the years, with the hope that they make your life easier and allow you to customize as needed.

One of my favorite zesty additions to a wide variety of food is garlic. We’ve shown you How to Peel and Mince Garlic, How to Make Garlic Paste and even shared some easy Garlic Conversions to make your cooking a little easier!

However, there are times where you just don’t have fresh garlic on hand, or you want something with more of an effortless punch of flavor. Enter garlic salt!

This easy to make spice blend gives you the best of garlic powder with an added mixture of salt to bring out all the good flavors of your soups, pasta dishes, breads, and so much more.

What is Garlic Salt?

It’s a seasoning salt blend of traditional garlic powder, with the addition of salt. In many commercially available seasoning blends, there are often anti-caking ingredients and preservatives added as well.

This homemade version eliminates all the additives and just sticks to the good stuff: garlic and salt!

What’s the Difference Between Garlic Salt and Garlic Powder?

The main difference between these two spice blends is the addition of salt in garlic salt.

What does that mean for you in the kitchen, though? It means that these two seasonings are not interchangeable. One has additional salt and the other does not – so your recipes will be affected in a significant way!

Don’t use garlic salt in place of garlic powder, or the other way around. Your recipes will quite simply be much too salty or bland if you interchange these two!
