The Best Grilled Cheese Recipe

Honestly, I don’t know if this really constitutes as a “recipe”, however, if you’re like me, you’re want a quick and easy dinner that everyone in your family will enjoy. Sometimes that means bringing it back to the basics, but in gourmet way. This wasn’t something I intended to share, but after the feedback I received from the Instagram photo I posted, I knew I had to! The best grilled cheese recipe is all in the ingredients…
A great grilled cheese starts with great ingredients. In our house, toppings vary for each person, which is the beauty of this quick dinner. You’re not making an entirely different meal for everyone, just customizing a sandwich.
Good bread – I love using sourdough
shredded cheese – my favorite is a swiss & gruyere mix, but the girls love the Borden cheddar slices
granny smith apple, sliced thin
caramelized onion – do it yourself or purchase off the salad bar at your grocery store
Sometimes, I even like to add a little bacon!
Just like any grilled cheese, I butter the bread facing both slices down individually on a skillet over medium heat and begin topping them. Mustard first, cheese next {so it gets nice and gooey}, then apple slices, onion & bacon. At the end, I put the two pieces together and allow them to cook for another 30 seconds to seal it.
You may never eat another basic grilled cheese again!
