I look forward to Cinco de Mayo to celebrate with aaaall the tacos and margaritas

When spring and summer comes around, margaritas are my cocktail of choice. You’ll often find us enjoying one on the dock with neighbors who favor mango. It’s a fun and fresh way to mix up this skinny margarita recipe.

Why You’ll Love this Recipe

  • The best thing is, you don’t need an expensive mango margarita mix, just a few fresh ingredients and a couple minutes. They’re quick and easy to mix up for a last minute get together or a cocktail at home
  • They’re so vibrant and flavorful! The mango purée adds a wonderful flavor and cuts through the tartness of the lime. There is no added refined sugar in these, thanks to the agave nectar.
  • The puréed mango is sweet enough to limit the amount of agave nectar, which also helps limit calories!

Mango Margarita Ingredients

  • Tequila – Any will “do”, but the better the tequila, the better the flavor. I love using Patron Silver, Camerena Reposado, Camerena Silver or Altos.
  • Lime Juice – Freshly squeezed lime juice makes all the difference in this cocktail. You can also use lime juice purchased from the produce section or juice aisle in your grocery store. Lime juice in the liquor section has a lot of sweetener, color and additives.
  • Orange Juice – Orange juice is optional but I love adding a hint, it works so well with mango. Again, fresh is always best! You can use fresh or store bought.
  • Agave Nectar – To add a hint of sweetness to cut through the lime I used agave nectar. It mixes well with the other ingredients and is natural and vegan friendly. You can substitute with simple syrup.
  • Mango Purée – Mango purée is how we get that wonderful hit of mango flavor. It’s concentrated so you don’t need much to make the most delicious cocktails!

Variations

  • Don’t want to buy or make purée? Use mango juice instead.
  • Make a margarita float with mango sorbet!

How To Make A Mango Margarita

  1. Add tequila, lime juice, orange juice,  agave and mango puree to a shaker.
  2. Shake well, strain and pour over ice.

Tips

  • Make a Pitcher – Use the sliding bar for servings in the printable recipe card to automatically multiply each ingredient!
  • Crushed Ice – Sometimes, it’s the little things. While crushed ice is not necessary for a margarita, it really makes such a difference! Check out our favorite nugget ice maker.
  • Fresh Juice – Of course you can buy premade lime juice in the produce section. But you’ll be so glad you went to the extra step of squeezing the limes, and it’s easy to make the juice ahead for Margarita Mix and store it before a party!
  • Quality Tequila – This really does make a world of difference. Don’t skip my complete Tequila Guide for all the best options!
  • Shake – This cocktail is one that is meant to be shaken and not stirred. The mango puree is fairly thick so shaking helps to combine all of the ingredients together to create a smooth drink.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do You Shake A Cocktail?

Once all the ingredients are added to your shaker, secure the top. Hold the shaker in both hands, each hand on the two parts of the shaker. Shake vigorously for about 20 seconds so that everything is well combined before pouring.

How Much Alcohol Is In A Mango Margarita?

One of these cocktails contains one shot of tequila, or 2 ounces. If you prefer, you can use a one ounce shot, but I like to be able to taste the tequila!
You can turn this drink into a summer mocktail by omitting the tequila, although it obviously won’t be a true margarita.
