    Too much time at home is a dangerous thing. It gives you time to think, create and bake. Honestly, I shouldn’t be trusted. There’s something therapeutic about baking. In a short period of time you feel a sense of accomplishment and delicious satisfaction.

    Last week I had an idea – what if I added cocoa powder to my melt in your mouth sugar cookie dough to make chocolate sugar cookies? It was a risk, because I don’t like to waste cookie dough, but it was one that paid off! I made chocolate sugar cookies and iced them with my creamy buttercream icing for all of you chocolate lovers.

    Cookies are a known stress reliever in our house. One bite in and I immediately feel at peace. I liken it to sipping a glass of wine. Fortunately I had a share plan in mind for these chocolate sugar cookies because we all know I don’t need a few dozen of them at my fingertips! We’re excited to welcome new neighbors and there’s really no better way, right?

    Chocolate Sugar Cookies

    Prep Time 5 minutes
    Cook Time 8 minutes
    Total Time 13 minutes
    Servings 36



    1. Combine butter, oil, sugars & vanilla until smooth. Blend in eggs.
    2. Add flour, salt, cream of tarter, cocoa & baking soda until blended in.
    3. Refrigerate dough 1+ hours.
    4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
    5. Roll dough into large golf ball sized balls. {6/cookie sheet}
    6. Bake 8-9 minutes watching carefully as to not over bake.
    7. Allow to cool on cookie sheet & thoroughly before icing.

    And of course you’ll want to top them with buttercream icing. I you can add 1-2 drops of red food coloring and spread it on the cookie or warm it 30 seconds and pour it on the center of your cookie to create a smooth, pretty pool of icing. Either way, you can’t lose!
