I love doing 5 minute flowers. It gives me a sense of gratification without a lot of time & effort. Almost all of my flowers {all in this series} come from the grocery store, because it’s accessible, seasonally & inexpensive. For Aniston & Adalyn’s family birthday party, I ordered a cake for convenience & decorated it on my own. It took just 3 minutes & $6 in flowers to make a stunning cake to celebrate their birthdays. Of course it was incredibly easy – anyone can do it! Here’s my simple tutorial to put flowers on cake, which in my example is an orchid cake!
Supplies:
scissors {kitchen shears are great}
small orchid w/ 2 “stems/separate blooms”
Details:
Step 1: Select your largest stem and cut 1″ below the break {where it forks, if possible} or 1″ longer than what you’ll need. Insert the stem into the center of the cake, allowing the flowers to drape over the side.
Note: You may wish to rinse your orchid. If you do, blot dry as it will cause the leaves & blooms to decompose.
Step 2:
Choose your second stem, cutting it an inch longer. Eye it to see where it will fit beautifully – mine was the opening in between the first stem, so I inserted it in the cake there. You can remove blooms & add them individually, if needed.
