Notes
The size of your watermelon will determine servings of this watermelon juice. My 4 pound watermelon yielded approximately 6 cups of juice. For an adult-friendly watermelon juice with a twist, add a splash of vodka, rum or tequila!
Variations
Add Lime Juice - Just 2 tablespoons add a vibrant citrus spin to this watermelon juice.
Add Bubbles - Sparkling water is a refreshing addition. Adjust to your personal preference.
Simple Syrup - You can easily make simple syrup if you don't have a bottle on hand. For 1/4 cup simple syrup, use 1/4 cup white granulated sugar and 1/4 cup water. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Whisk until smooth, remove from heat and allow to cool.
Selecting a good watermelon can be a bit of an art, but here are some tips to help you pick the perfect one:
Look for a creamy yellow spot: Find the side of the watermelon with a creamy yellow spot. If the spot is white or green, it might have been picked too soon and won't be as sweet.
Inspect the surface: The watermelon's skin should be firm, smooth, and free from bruises, cuts, or dents. Also, look for any signs of mold or soft spots.
Pick it up: A ripe watermelon should feel heavy for its size. Lift a few watermelons of similar size to compare weights.
Tap it: Gently tap the watermelon with your knuckles. You should hear a deep, hollow sound. If the sound is dull or flat, it might be underripe.
Check the stem: Look for a dried stem on the end opposite the creamy yellow spot. If it's green, the watermelon might have been picked prematurely.
Storage Notes
Watermelon juice is best right after it's made, but any leftovers can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days.
