  • There is a misconception that having a receiving line or dismissing by rows only takes 15 minutes. If you speak to each of your {250} guests for JUST 15 seconds, that’s over an hour that your guests are waiting to see you without food, beverage or feeling comfortable to exit ahead for the restroom. That’s IF Aunt Ida doesn’t go on and on about how beautiful you were, how cute the flower girl was when she ran down the aisle and that she has been looking forward to this day since you started playing dress up.
The bride and groom are always served first at the reception.  I advise my clients sit down, relax and enjoy their dinner together and greet guests at their tables while they are being served or still eating. You can speak with everyone at the table at once and it gives them something to do while they’re waiting rather than waiting on you. No additional time is consumed and guests appreciate having a moment to personally see you.
If you are having a receiving line or dismissing by row, let your vendors know so that the can accurately adjust their timelines.

As a guest, what are your thoughts on receiving lines or being dismissed? Do you enjoy or dread them?  I’d love to know your responses to help others planning their weddings.  Please take a moment to answer here!
