Learn how to broil steak in the oven with this easy step by step tutorial! This broiled steak recipe makes an incredibly easy dinner with so much flexibility with seasoning and sides.
Bring Steak to Room Temperature - Allow the steak to rest at room temperature 30 minutes. This allows to cook more evenly all the way through.
Preheat Broiler - Preheat 5-10 minutes for the best results.
Dry Steak - Surface moisture can delay or prevent searing, so removing that extra moisture creates even browning.
Add a Rub - Coat with thick flakes of black pepper, your favorite seasoning or rub.
Broil - Place steak in an oven baked dish and broil. Turn steak halfway through - 6-12 minutes per side depending on thickness of steak and desired temperature. See notes for times. Internal temperature should reach 145 degrees for medium rare.
Rest - Allow steak to rest 3 minutes before serving or slicing.
