This traditional chocolate fudge recipe is easy to make and with just a handful or simple ingredients. This is the best homemade fudge recipe, and perfect for food gifts and treats throughout the holidays. Made without condensed milk, this basic recipe is totally fuss free!
Prepare an 8x8 in baking pan with butter and set aside.
In a medium sauce pan, combine sugar, cocoa, and milk over medium-low heat, stirring continuously until it comes to a boil.
Reduce heat to low (do not stir) and insert candy thermometer until it reaches 240°F (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat and do not disturb until it reaches 110℉ (about 1 hour).Note: If you do not have a candy thermometer, drop a teaspoon of fudge mixture in a glass of ice water. If it forms a ball, remove from heat.
Using a wooden spoon, stir in butter and vanilla and vigorously stir until it appears dull and loses it's sheen.
Pour mixture into prepared pan and spread. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
Do not use a metal spoon to stir and beat the fudge.
It's best to use a candy thermometer to know exactly when the fudge has reached the correct temperature.
