Tips and Substitutions
Use Crushed Ice
Using crushed ice is so simple, but really makes a difference. It waters the margarita down taking out a hint of sour. In the name of research, we tasted a margarita made with cubed ice next to a margarita with crushed ice. The difference is astounding.Sometimes, it’s the little things. However, at home, we often make them with cubed ice out of ease. Either way, you'll love these margaritas!
Fresh Lime Juice
Purchasing lime juice will do, too. I have a juicer attachment for my mixer that makes fresh juice a breeze, but I also frequently use bottled lime juice. Either way it’s significantly better than a mix.
Agave
Agave naturally sweetens watermelon margaritas, without all the calories! If you prefer, you can use simple syrup.
Great Tequila
Any will “do”, but the better the tequila, the better the flavor. I love using Patron Silver, Camerena Reposado, Camerena Silver, Casamigos, or Altos. The tequila you choose can enhance or detract from the flavor.
Make it Frozen
After puréeing the watermelon, add tequila, agave nectar and blend with ice. It makes an amazing Frozen Watermelon Margarita that's perfect for poolside get togethers, barbecues, boating and more. Either way, it's low calories and tastes fabulous!
How to Rim a Margarita Glass
Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a glass.
Dip rims in thick flakes of kosher salt, margarita salt or sweeten it up with sugar.
