Caramelized Shallot Mashed Potatoes

Mix up your mashed potatoes for the holidays with this easy Caramelized Shallot Mashed Potatoes recipe! They're so flavorful you'll never want basic mashed potatoes again!

  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 6 large shallots about 1 c caramelized
  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 c milk
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 lbs yukon gold potatoes


  • Place potatoes in large saucepan. Add cool water to cover potatoes by 1 1/2 inches. Bring to a boil over medium high heat. 
    Reduce heat and simmer until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, over medium heat, melt butter and add shallots. Cook until golden brown.
  • Reduce heat to low, add garlic stirring for 1 minute.
  • Remove skins from slightly cooled potatoes and add to a mixing bowl.
  • Add milk and mix until smooth. Blend in caramelized shallot.
  • Salt and pepper to taste.


Optional: garnish with fresh grated parmesan, gruyere or minced chives
Salt and pepper using fresh cracked salt and pepper with large flakes for the best flavor.
