  • I have several sugar cookie recipes, but this one proves to be my husband’s favorite when iced.  He describes it as a mix of a sugar and shortbread cookie.  It’s provides a great base for any icing, but I prefer buttercream or cream cheese icing to traditional royal icing.
    1 cup butter, softened
    2 cups sugar
    2 eggs
    3 tsp vanilla
    1 cup sour cream
    1 tsp salt
    2 tsp baking soda
    5 1/2 – 6 cups flour

In mixer, cream butter and sugar.  Add eggs, vanilla and sour cream.  In a separate bowl, combine salt, baking soda and flour. Gradually add to mixture.  Roll dough into balls, placing on parchment lined cookie sheets.  Lightly dust the bottom of a glass and press dough to 1/4″.  Bake at 375 for 7-8 minutes.  Do not be tempted to add time!

{note, you may need to add increase flour to 6 cups if you roll them and are using a cookie cutter.
