It’s not all before and afters in the Blanner household. It’s a lot of “in progress”, and that’s okay! I feel an unreasonable amount of inadequacy that I can’t seem to transform a room or a home overnight like so many of my friends and fellow bloggers. I just don’t work that way. Progress is always slow in our home, but I try to find balance in fixing up our home and enjoying it. Oh, and for those who can, bravo! I love watching transformations, I just can’t seem to make them happen quickly.

One of the rooms I love most in our home is our breakfast nook. It’s an addition to the home that boasts beautiful views of our yard, stunning sunsets and a lake across the way. It also leads out to our deck {more on that coming next week!} When we purchased our home it appeared to be used as a family room or reading nook. I immediately decided that we would use it as a breakfast nook because the breakfast area of the kitchen is extremely small and putting a table there blocks a major path in the home to and from the garage, from the living room to kitchen, etc.

When we moved in there were merely wires hanging down where a light once was. I custom ordered a natural brass lantern to fill it. Because the room doesn’t require much, I wanted it to make a statement. I have also dreamed about this fixture for more than 3 years…finally, I had the space to put it.

I purchased a table from Restoration Hardware that is 120″ with leaves. It can accommodate up to 14, which is great for entertaining. It fills the room beautifully!

I haven’t decided what I am going to put on the large wall yet. Any ideas? I’m potentially considering a large canvas. At this time I have decided against curtains so that they don’t distract from the views but haven’t committed either way. I’d love your thoughts!

I desperately want to replace the sliding glass doors with french doors, but you know, budgets! I think it would be so beautiful opening up to our new “patio” and better transition the space when we have guests over.

I’m anxious to move onto the next phase – floors! The linoleum will be replaced with hardwood floors and heavy white trim. Thanks for following along on our journey!
