Friday Fix, Celebrating Truth

Okay, it seems I’ve been failing at finding time for a little mid-week writing, but I have so much to share today, so let’s just call it a Friday fix. This week I’ve been decorating for Christmas, enjoying some fun activities with the girls like making hot chocolate and gingerbread houses and filming a few segments for local tv. If that isn’t enough, I’ve also been managing construction in our home. To motivate me throughout the week I’ve been listening to Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats {thanks to Michael} and lots of Kids’ Bop Christmas.

My niece and her husband visited over the weekend and helped the girls do gingerbread houses. Note to self for next year, glue them together the night before, then let the girls decorate them. Maybe I’ll even make them from scratch next year?

Let’s start with some behind the scenes iPhone photos, shall we? So yes, my bookcases look like this, but what you didn’t see just behind me was that the rest of the living room and foyer looked like this:

Looks can be deceiving, can’t they?

I’m in love! Our new doors are finally in and Chris is working diligently to install the door knobs…more on these beauties to come! Here are a couple of the upstairs hallway in progress…

It’s amazing how much new doors brightened up the hall. They reflect light and happiness.

We’ve also wrapped up a few small details like this – we had chunks of molding missing in a couple rooms. It feels good.

I originally ordered this runner for the mudroom, but went a slightly different direction. I decided a longer one will look beautiful in the hall because despite my best efforts and nearly 10 Craigslist alerts, I still can’t find an oriental rug/a sarouk.

Now onto some pretty things, these are just a few of my favorite Christmas homes this year:

    Craftberry Bush

    French Country Cottage

    Inspired by Charm

    Iron and Twine

This is just brilliant…how gorgeous would a soft tan buffalo check wall be? You’ll never believe how she did it.

We *almost* purchased a beautiful new dresser and chest of drawers this week for our master bedroom, but then I questioned exactly what I wanted. Do you do this? I love a linen upholstered headboard and want to retain my grandmother’s walnut chest at the foot of the bed, but beyond that, I’m at a loss. Here are a few directions I’m considering…

I also think painted furniture could be nice in creamy colors via Phoebe Howard.

So, until I can come up with a solid plan, I’m going to refrain. I’d rather take my time and make thoughtful decisions we’ll love for years to come than to rush and get a great deal. Which of these bedrooms are you drawn to?

I hope you have a great weekend!
