My week is a little off and when I woke today, I hardly knew what day it was. I was elated when I realized it is in fact Friday! Last week we made our annual getaway to Big Cedar Lodge, just south of Branson, Missouri. Beyond all of the billboards, shows, elderly and other stereotypical Branson thoughts that come to mind is a beautiful Ozark landscape. Each time we visit, we become more excited about realizing our dream for a lake cottage. I’ll be sharing plenty of photos from our trip over the weekend, but these are a few highlights that melt my heart.

We returned home Sunday night and I ventured to Lowe’s early Monday morning for a few exciting meetings. So Wednesday felt like my Monday. I’m hoping to make a little progress over the weekend while Chris does his 33 mile trail run. I thought I’d share a few of our current projects…

We added wood shades, which I had custom cut to fit while I waited at Lowe’s.

I finally found a small bench for our entryway. This is one of the main walkways through our home, but I was determined to add a bench because it’s the first thing you see when you enter the house. I have always found benches to be both inviting and functional.

After spending nearly a year in a box in our garage, our toilet and sink are now installed in the half bathroom! Needless to say, I’m happy to cross that project off the list. I’m currently seeking an unlacquered brass faucet. I’ve found an articled about getting the unlacquered brass look for lessHave you tried this? If so, I’d love to hear. I’m anxiously waiting for the antique brass sconces to arrive {they’ve been backordered for months} so that we can hang the beautiful wood mirror I found on clearance at Restoration Hardware outlet.

Finally, we’ve started hanging art. I have several pieces that I want to find homes for over the weekend. As you can see from the ceiling in the photo above, there is still a lot of work to be done, but each day it’s starting to feel more and more like our home. Our custom wood doors will be delivered next week and I have selected the prettiest knobs to pair them with, then I think we’ll take a hiatus to enjoy the holidays.

I was excited to pick up the latest issue of Health magazine this week to see my name nestled between Victoria Justice and Jennifer Aniston. You can pick up a copy in stores now to read my entertaining tips for happy holidays in the green column ;).

While in North Carolina this week, I watched one of my favorite movies – Steel Magnolias. “I’d rather have 30 minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special. “It reminded me that sometimes we need to take a step back and appreciate what we have, especially as we approach the holidays. If we accomplish nothing this month, but spend an abundance of time together, I’m happy.

    Have a beautiful weekend, friends!
