One dream I thought for sure died with my twenties was a fruit cocktail like this watermelon margarita. I just knew I would never be able to “afford” that many calories again. Thankfully, I was wrong!
Why You’ll Love this Recipe
- There are just 112 calories in a Watermelon Margarita! That’s just one of the things that make them so amazing! It’s so fresh and flavorful yet naturally sweet.
- Honestly, I didn’t even realize how incredible a fresh Watermelon Margarita could be after years of drinking pre-mixed margaritas at restaurants!
- Puréed fruit is sweet enough to limit the amount of agave nectar. It’s so much more amazing than the super sweet pre-mixed margaritas.
I was getting ready to make a batch of skinny margaritas for the weekend, and realized I needed to share one of my favorite variations with you. A fresh Watermelon Margarita. It’s a taste of summer. It’s so refreshing, especially without a salt rimmed glass.
It is perfectly presentable with a little watermelon wedge to garnish the glass.
Tips
- Use Crushed Ice – So simple, but really makes a difference. It waters the margarita down taking out a hint of sour. In the name of research, we tasted a margarita made with cubed ice next to a margarita with crushed ice. The difference is astounding.
- Fresh Lime Juice – Purchasing lime juice will do, too. I have a juicer attachment for my mixer that makes fresh juice a breeze, but I also frequently use bottled lime juice. Either way it’s significantly better than a mix.
- Great Tequila – Any will “do”, but the better the tequila, the better the flavor. I love using Patron Silver, Camerena Reposado, Camerena Silver, Casamigos, or Altos. The tequila you choose can enhance or detract from the flavor.
- Agave – Agave naturally sweetens these watermelon margaritas, without all the calories! If you prefer, you can use simple syrup.
