This time of year, I often begin to question why I chose to live in the Midwest. I love spring, summer and fall, but the cold weather, blistering winds and lack of sun takes their toll on both my mood and skin.

This is also the time of year when I need to exfoliate everything, using sugar scrubs I whip up for my arms, legs and feet and a gentle exfoliator for my face. No matter what I do right now my lips are dry and chapped…I realized I needed to be exfoliating them, too!

You can put on all the lip treatments you want, but first and foremost, you will need to remove the dead skin. This is where this easy DIY Lip Scrub comes in. PS… it’s so good you’ll want to lick your lips!

What Is In This DIY Lip Scrub?

  • Coconut oil: Reduces inflammation and keeps the skin moisturized.
  • Essential oil: Can help dry, oily and acne prone skin and is antibacterial.
  • Sugar: Exfoliates the skin.
  • Grapeseed oil: Makes skin softer and more elastic.

How Do You Make A Sugar Lip Scrub?

It’s so easy to make a natural lip exfoliator at home! Simply add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and combine well until everything is blended. Store the scrub in an airtight container.

Are Lip Scrubs Good For Your Lips?

Absolutely! This lip scrub makes a fun activity for a spa birthday party or a great Valentine’s Day gift for friends. {I can’t be the only one with a daughter who is over-the-top excited about all things bath bombs and beauty, right?} Because the ingredients are natural, you can feel good about whipping up a batch to gift to teachers, neighbors, and anyone that might enjoy some softer skin this winter.

What Are The Benefits Of Using A Lip Exfoliator?

When you use a DIY lip scrub, it removes the dead tissue from the skin and it will leave them feeling softer and smoother. It helps to neutralize lip discoloration, moisturize and help your lips look fuller.

How Often Should You Exfoliate Lips?

Because it’s so gentle, you can use daily, if needed! Twice a week is generally recommended for exfoliation. I prefer to use this lip scrub in the morning, before applying my makeup. I feel like it helps my lipstick or gloss application last so much longer!

Tips For A DIY Lip Scrub:

  • Try it with brown sugar instead of white to see which version you might prefer.
  • While you can also sub with olive oil, I prefer the sweetness of the grapeseed.
  • Consider doubling or tripling the recipe for gifting
  • Customize by using your favorite essential oil (suggestions: eucalyptus, peppermint, vanilla, sweet orange or even lavender would be lovely)

How To Use A DIY Lip Scrub:

Gently massage back and forth on your lips in a circular motion. Rinse or wipe off any excess with a washcloth.

A Homemade Natural Lip Exfoliator Without Honey

It’s so easy and quick to make your own scrub at home. There is no honey in this recipe, I find that it can become overly sticky and tricky to clean off.

How to Store Homemade Lip Scrub:

  • store in an airtight container
  • homemade lip scrub lasts up to 3 weeks and then should be discarded

Hello from the Little Falls Public Library. We’re going to host a program where participants will make this lip scrub. It’ll be free, and we’ll provide all the ingredients. Is it ok to borrow the lip scrub image to promote the program?

  3. Would olive oil be a good substitute for the grape seed oil? I have everything except the grape seed oil and really want to make this today. My lips have been chapped for 3 weeks straight and nothing that usually helps is curing them!

  4. This is so so good! We just got snow in Poland recently and it became chilly so I’d love to try out this scrub! Especially that I’ve never tried any scrub before – thank you!
