Apple Ice Cream

For me, ice cream knows no season. I remember venturing downtown in the snow with my mom and sister years ago. The rest of the family thought we were crazy, but we just had to get our ice cream fix.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Three Ingredients – The simplest combination of ingredients makes an incredibly creamy, dream fuss-free fall ice cream!
  • Under Five Minutes – Of hands on time! Since it’s a 30-minute drive to visit the shop where I fell in love with apple butter ice cream, I decided to recreate it at home.
  • Great with Other Desserts – Add it to apple pie, cakes, cookies and more!

If you’re like me, and you love ice cream all year round, you’ll be obsessed with this fall take on a traditional summer treat. The spices from the apple butter go perfectly with this creamy ice cream recipe.

What is Apple Butter?

For all of you that might be grossed out right now thinking I put actual butter in the ice cream, don’t worry… apple butter isn’t actual butter!

Apple butter is a highly concentrated form of applesauce. It’s produced by long, slow cooking of apples with cider or water until the sugar in the apples caramelizes. This turns the apple butter a deep brown.

Basically, apple butter is pretty much applesauce’s grown up sister and she’s amazing.

It’s typically used as a spread on just about anything you want. I love it on biscuits, crackers, muffins, waffles… You name it, I’ve probably put apple butter on it.

This recipe was so easy and so so good! We ended up sandwiching the ice cream between some ginger cookies and oatmeal cookies and it was divine, thank you so much for sharing.
