Chocolate Tres Leches Recipe

If you’re hosting New Year’s, or just want a cake that will blow your guests away, you must try this chocolate tres leches cake.  It requires a lot of ingredients, but is short on time and so easy.  Oh, and decadent without being too rich.

Because it’s so moist, this cake is best made in a traditional 9×13 pan.  I used one of my white ceramic bakers, which is fit for serving.

1 box milk chocolate cake mix
1 1/4 c chocolate milk
1/2 c canola oil
2 eggs
1 tsp instant expresso powder {optional}

1 {14 ounce} can sweetened condensed milk
3/4 c half and half
3/4 c evaporated milk

3 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 c powdered sugar
2 c whipping/heavy cream

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9×13 inch pan. Mix first set of ingredients – cake mix, chocolate milk oil, eggs and expresso powder, pour into pan and bake 35 minutes.

Remove cake from the oven and allow to cool until just warm.  Poke holes in the cake with a fork.  Whisk second set of ingredients – sweetened condensed milk, half and half, evaporated milk, 3 Tbsp cocoa powder until mostly combined and pour evenly over the cake.  Allow cake to cool.

Beat heavy cream, increasing speed as it thickens, add powdered sugar and cocoa.  Continue mixing until soft peaks form.  Spread onto cooled cake and serve overwhelm
